About The Shurland, Eastchurch

Located on the Isle Of Sheppey – about 20 miles from Maidstone, you’ll find one of the most friendly and inviting pubs on the Island. Located in the centre of the quintessentially English village of Eastchurch, the 19th Century pub has been the hub of the village for almost 200 years, and still retains all the charm and character you’d expect.

In 2002, the original building (formally The Crooked Billet – shown above), was extended to incorporate 11 new and modern rooms to the existing 6 rooms, a much larger kitchen and 60 seat restaurant. The extension also added a fully functional Gym, two squash courts and a 80-capacity function room. Many visitors to the Island fondly remember the Crooked Billet and hardly recognise the building as it stands today. A number of old photographs of the Crooked Billet can be found on this site.

Whether you need to refresh a parched palate after a vigorous walk, or have a lazy Sunday lunch with the whole family, we offer a little something for everyone. With our cozy restaurant and an open fire in the main bar area, the Shurland Hotel has all the appeal of a truly welcoming village pub.

Seventeen modern, bright and airy rooms are available for those wishing to stay, including a family room. So, if you want to stay a night or two to explore some of the beautiful countryside (or do some serious shopping in Maidstone or Ashford!), then The Shurland Hotel makes the perfect base.

In the forthcoming months, we will be refurbishing a number of areas within the walls of The Shurland – which we are all very excited about. We will be loosing our Squash Courts but gaining more floor space for our Gym and Function Room. The Gym will be three times larger than it currently is now, the function room will increase in size, to be able to hold 180 people. We will be redecorating the Grey Dolphin Restaurant and transforming it into a wonderful modern Pizzeria – complete with wood fire oven! The team at The Shurland Hotel consists of Steven Haynes (Landlord and Proprietor), his partner Samantha (Payroll and Marketing), cousin Mark (Entertainment Manager) and 30 helpful and friendly staff, including Steve’s Mother!
